Comets Connect in the Big Apple

Brick proposal: Chunyan Tang will you marry me? Siqi Fang

More than 80 UT Dallas graduates recently gathered at New York City’s Park Avenue Tavern to reminisce, reconnect and build relationships.

“In New York City, people tend to look for their pack,” said Jack Sun BS’02, CEO of Sino Garden International Development Corp., who attended the event. “A local alumni network provides resources, connections and mutual benefits.”

Matthew Thompson BS’12 earned a marketing degree at the University before accepting a consulting position with Accenture in New York City. He soon learned that nearly 570 fellow Comets were living in the area, but there was no official UT Dallas alumni chapter.

“I was amazed by the number of Texans and UT Dallas alumni here,” Thompson said. “Once I learned there wasn't an established UT Dallas alumni chapter in the New York City area, I went into action.”

Thompson and other chapter leaders help coordinate events in their respective regions to maintain UT Dallas connections.

“It has proven to be an incredible opportunity for alumni and current students to network, share career opportunities and enrich the UT Dallas brand here,” Thompson said.

Look for alumni chapter events in your area, as well as other ways to utilize your 96,000-plus alumni network. Check the current list of existing University chapters, connect with your regional representative and find other alumni on LinkedIn and Facebook.
