Even the most vigilant parents can use some help keeping tabs on their energetic kids.
Dr. Terrell R. Bennett MS’07, PhD’16 helped develop a tool that assists parents in preventing their children from wandering too far away. Bennett, chief technology officer for startup Le Vise Products LLC, created The Joey Tag, a wearable device designed to alert parents when children wander out of their proximity.
“Parents get an alert on their smartphone, which gives the parents peace of mind and the kids room to play,” he said.

As a father of two sons, Bennett understands how easy it is for family members to get distracted and disconnected in busy places such as stadiums or amusement parks.
“I wanted to make sure my sons are safe, but I can’t just hold their hands 100 percent of the time,” he said.
Bennett became interested in the internet of things and how technology could make our world a smarter, safer place while studying electrical engineering at UT Dallas. After joining Le Vise Products, he began working to construct the device, which launched successfully on Kickstarter in 2016. The company expects to start fulfilling orders this year.
